Strange times call for strange measures

Posted by Gillenium - August 17th, 2008

Something pretty bizarre happened today. I was working on a new song, getting a bit frustrated, because A: The song wasn't going that well and B: My music production has felt minimal lately, even though I am involved in other things. I did what I always do in a slump - I rip bits out of other songs of mine and throw them into the new one for inspiration. I ripped a bit out of an old unreleased track that I thought was going nowhere.. but the bit fit. I threw in more bits, screwing with them in Ableton and creating, essentially, a new song from an old one, although the old parts are barely recognizable. I edited them into new tempos and keys, but the result is surprisingly good.

I'm going to pretty much throw my new song away (most of it) and work in this old tune. It's sounding very different... islandy, is that a word?

P.S. - My third podcast episode is out, if you didn't know already - http://gillenium.podOmatic.com/
