My ambient collab is finally here! Is it what you thought it'd sound like?
First of all, a high-quality version of this track is available at http://www.icompositions.com/artists/T heNewGillenium . The new NG limit is pretty good, but it still couldn't hold a 256 kbit version of this long song!
This is my first collab since 2005's Creatine Clockwork. I changed things up with this collab, too. In the past, the guitarist would send me a piece of material and I would chop it up and center a song around it. This time, it was a true 50/50, back-and-forth effort. Kevin (NG user Bamsukka) sent me a collection of synths and guitarwork. I started centering the song around them, but instead of chopping the guitar up, I decided to have Kevin play over top of my finished part. So I finished the song, gave it to him, and he did the final guitar-work and fx. I didn't change anything except the volume when I mixed his part and mine together. I LOVE the result. I might do all future collabs this way.
As you can hear, this song is super-ambient. Some fundamental elements of my part of the song were influenced by Aphex Twin's Selected Ambient Works Vol. 2. My main focus was changing and cross-fading song elements very subtley. If I did my job right, some parts of the song will pop up without you evening noticing it.
Kevin added a few ingenious touches with his bass, guitar, and fx as well. In the first half of the song, the bass plays a certain place in the measure, but in the second half, it hits on a different time in the measure. This allows you to experience the same melody in a completely different way. Nice one, Kev-o!
This will definitely help you relax after a long day. I hope you like it!
As for my other projects, I have an IDM-type funky song in production and my super-amazing Mothman Christmas tune, which will be ready for the holidays! But enough of the future - go listen to the present!
