Gillenium's News

Here is an app that every fan of music should have!

If you have ten bucks, you need to get Audiosurf. It's a great little rythm-based game that takes the genre in all the right directions. No more button presses - you use a mouse! You can literally ride and play ANY song you have. There are about a dozen different ways to play, too, although I definitely prefer the "avoid the grey blocks" mode. Part of the fun of the game is finding which songs provide the best ride, and if you have a library of over 2000 songs like I do, you'll be playing this game for a long time..

My recommended song for the best ride is Come With Us by The Chemical Brothers... that one gave me chills!

I haven't tried very many Gillenium songs yet, but I'll be sure to let you know which ones are worth playing ;)

Ants in a Better Place

Posted by Gillenium - February 28th, 2008

Hey, everybody!

Production Update: 2-28-08 (oh crap, I forgot to pay my rent!)

I have plenty of music on my hands and in my brain right now. I was having a dry spell there for a couple weeks, but now I'm cruising on easy street. I have one song in the polishing phase, which means it's almost done. I'm kicking around some titles, like "Ants in a Better Place" and "Beautiful Pollution" (girlfriend gave me that one by accident!). That's an FL Studio song. I also have an Ableton Live song that's working its way up to the polishing phase. Think Rob Dougan for that one.

Ok, as for ideas, I'm DEFINITELY going to write a reaction piece to the Underworld concert I'm attending next month, so be on the lookout for that in early April. I'm thinking "Love of the Underworld." "Underworld Love" sounds a bit weird, although it is consistent with Chemical Love. We'll see. I'm also looking into a couple of collabs and a cover.... yes a COVER. I've been wanting to do this cover (of a local band) for years, so I'm looking forward to trying it.

Still can't believe I'm seeing Underworld in Atlanta next month. Pinch me, I'm dreaming!.... ow!

IT NEEDS MORE BONGOS!!!

Underworld is playing Atlanta, March 28th, and I just got tickets... I'm finally going to see my favorite band live... AGHHHHHHHHH!!!! I can't believe it! This is like... my religious journey to the holy land!

I'm suddenly filled with inspiration. Two weeks of composer's block dramatically smashed. I just now ressurrected an older song I once thought was unfinishable, and it's sounding great!

Anyone want to come to this show with me?

Ok, this doesn't have much to do with music, but... who else is excited about Super Smash Bros. Brawl coming out in a little under a month? I'm looking for some peeps to rumble with, who I will show the pure, unstoppable force of my Game and Watch. Who else is getting it? :D

It's a bad time for making music... I'm in the final stretch of college, I have an apartment to maintain, a zoo's worth of animals to take care of, and my laptop is dying slowly... I have one super-awesome tune I'm working on and about a dozen others that may not see the light of day. Luckly, my dad is getting a new computer which means (as always) I get his awesome hand-me-downs. And for once, I'll have a GOOD soundcard with midi in/out and enough processing power and storage space (350 gigs!!!!!) to maintain all of my song files and performance needs. Excited?? YOU BET I AM!

Live Performance #2

Posted by Gillenium - January 25th, 2008

Ok, here's a bunch of random stuff -

Michael Clayton is coming back to theaters. Heeeeellllz yeah! That movie is definitely one of my top movies of 2007. And if you haven't seen it... well, you no longer have an excuse! GO! I think I might see it again, too.

I'm working on a live video performance of "Breaking Orbit." This one will be fully mixed live. I'm using every key on my keyboard as a sample station... I had to make labels for all of the keys. If you haven't seen my YouTube stuff.. where have you been? Go search for Gillenium. I have music videos, an exclusive mix, and a live performance there!

OH MAN! My Electronic Battle Weapons 8/9 arrived the other day (they are pictured below). This is a limited vinyl release or as boomkat.com put it "So limited, it will make your teeth hurt." I can tell my version is official, too, from the etchings in the runout. Friggin sweet! I still remember when Electronic Battle Weapon 8 (now named Saturate) ignited the audience in Brooklyn. No other song had such a large impact that night. 9 is a nasty piece of acid house as well. This is probably the best thing in my musical collection right now.

Take it easy, peeps.

It's been a prolific year so far! New tune is up, Vault series has begun, live internet performance is on Youtube ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xTqoLod HMNo ). Here's my art for the new song -

I drew this self-portrait in junior high, I believe..

New song?? Slow down, me!

Guess what I have on youtube!.. ok, you can probably guess it from the post title.

I've been working on a live opening set of my own music for quite some time now, so I figured I'd show off some of it. The original set is about 12 minutes and features the songs Hazard, Why Birds Sleep Well (Part 4), and Pangea. Unfortunately, I can only fit about 8 minutes worth of video on my digital camera, so I can't show you my kickass ending... drat. This is my only experience in crafting a live show, so I wanted to test it out on youtube. I might make this kind of internet show a habit if people like it, though.

I'm not sure when or if I'll ever perform live at a venue, but it is fun to tailor my music to a live performance. I think you'll notice some big changes in the tracks (especially Pangea).

In other news, Selection 2 and Selection 3 are up from the Gillenium vault. They're short, they're unfinished, but they're here. I've been working hard on an IDM track the past few weeks and I think it's almost done. Look for it soon..

I just released the first selection from my new Gillenium Vault series. Go listen!

Basically, all of the songs in the series are going to be unfinished/unreleased songs that are collecting dust in my archives. There are a lot of songs on my computer that I don't think have that magic I want in a full-fledged Gillenium release... however, this series gives me a chance to clear my archives and get these unfinished ideas out there and be able to say they're unfinished! Plus, it gives you something to listen to while I toil away at new songs.

I do have quite a few new songs that I'm working on. I've started about a dozen new tunes, trying to zero in on the kind of song I want to release next. Some of them are WEIRD. Some might end up in the Vault series! Who knows. I'll keep you updated
